How *Not* To Tuesday – Painting Without a Map

We are doing some painting in our house.

We are painting our bedroom (more on that one!) and our front hallway because we had spackled a hole where the door knob used to crash into the wall. Anyway, we thought we’d take this opportunity to add some oooomph to the area. Actually, I did. My husband wanted to keep the wall the same color as the rest of the house but I wanted to make it a bit more dramatic. So I went to the paint store and grabbed a bunch of swatches. I really wanted a raisin color but my husband thought it was too dark when we taped the swatches up.

So, what does every good wife do? Ask a friend for her opinion! My friend Barb thought a nice red would pop. I agreed in concept but I didn’t really look too carefully at the exact color of the red and just went out and bought a quart. Well, when we went to put it on the wall, it was really really off and had too much yellow in it. It definitely clashed with our terracotta fireplace and we bristled when we first saw it. So, alas, before going forward with the whole wall, we left it mid brush stroke and it’s back to the paint store for me.
